Brevard County School Superintendent Blackburn blocks parents from being actively involved in decisions that impact their children’s education.
Parents ROCK Brevard, (Right Of Choice for our Kids) , is a parent group focused on direct, impactful, decision-making for our children’s education in Brevard County Schools. Mr and Mrs Boone, are members.
Hamilton and Penny Boone are the ONLY parents in Brevard County to have gone through the Book Review process; a process that exposed parents’ powerlessness in selecting age proper material for their children’s education.
Mr Blackburn decided that a hand-picked group of BCS staff, by him to review this process was in order…minus any parents. A sham survey was sent via Edline, which was designed to get the answers that were pro Brevard School admin and anti-parent. Of note, my wife and I, as well as many other parents did not receive the sham survey
Having a unique perspective and being a parent of a high school student, Mr Boone thought that Mr Blackburn, who touts “wanting parents involved”, would jump at the chance to have him and his experience join his hand-picked group. Not so fast!
Since April 1st, Mr Boone had sent multiple emails and made multiple calls to Mr Blackburn, asking to be part of Mr Blackburn’s select group. Being ever the Elite, Mr Blackburn did not answer any email or call of this parent trying to be involved. Finally, after 2 months of no reply and a sham survey, Mr Blackburn finally answered Mr Boone’s request ; NO!
As Mr Blackburn’s recent Elite and dictatorial actions prove, his agenda for Brevard County Schools will be autocratic, anti-parent, and by extension, anti-student. Now I understand the school walk outs and demonstrations in south Florida against Mr Blackburn.
Mr Blackburn is anti-parent, anti-student and needs to go.
