Like many of you, Thanksgiving Day is absolutely one of my favorite holidays. A time to be with relatives and friends while enjoying those wonderful smells that fill the household. A time to eat a lot of great food, watch football and reflect on things, which inevitability brings me to the realization how thankful I am to be an American. A lot has transpired since October 3, 1789, when President Washington signed a declaration entitled “General Thanksgiving,” the decree appointed the day “to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God.” Then in 1863, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed, that on the 4th Thursday of November; “Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens”.
